Corrine Mae Coponen, 81, of Chassell, MI, took her departure to her heavenly home on Monday July 30, 2018, at her daughter’s home in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, surrounded by her loving family, following a short illness.
Corrine was born on April 11, 1937, in Ewen, MI, to the late Hubert and Olga (Sirvio) Anderson and moved to Detroit, MI, with her family when she was 16. She graduated in 1955 from Redford High School and worked as a secretary for the Detroit Board of Education for 9 years to the day.
On July 18, 1964, Corrine was united in marriage to David Coponen in Southfield, MI. They moved to Chassell in 1967.
Corrine professed her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Chassell. As written in Proverbs 31, she was “given to hospitality” and joyfully served her husband and all their guests throughout the years.
Corrine dearly loved her family and leaves behind her beloved husband of 54 years, 12 days; 5 children: Gordon, with wife Dora of Campobello, South Carolina, Cathryn with husband Roger Somero of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, Paul with wife Nylene of Chassell, Bruce of Chassell, and Thomas with wife Lena of Yacolt, Washington; 33 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren; brothers William with wife Jean of South Lyon, MI, and Robert with wife Eileen of Greer, South Carolina; sister Barbara Somero with husband Ralph of New Ipswich, New Hampshire; brother-in-law: David Waineo of Howell, MI, Aunt Stella Willson of Battle Ground, Washington, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents, sister, Doris Niemela and sister Edith Waineo only 5 days prior.
Visitation will be 3-9 pm on Friday August 3, 2018, at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the funeral. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am burial will follow at the Chassell Cemetery.
